Arrival & Stay

Munich is the capital of Bavaria and the 3rd biggest city in Germany. You can get to Munich by plane, train or car.

Please let us know as soon as possible when exactly you will arrive in Munich, so that we can arrange your accommodation and organize someone of our IAESTE staff to pick you up. This person will take you to your accommodation and answer your questions.

Please remember to bring a valid passport and a valid visa (for non-EU-citizens)!!!

Arrival by airplane

There are several airports near Munich  that we recommend as a destination airport.

We are pleased to help you with the planning of your onward journey from the airport to Munich. You can look for appropriate connections on the pages of the Deutsche Bahn.

Arrival by train

Because of Munich's connection to the international high-speed rail network, it is in some cases possible to travel to Munich by train. You can look for suitable connections on the pages of the European Railways or the Deutsche Bahn.

Arrival by car

Munich is connected to the German highway network. Europe-wide route suggestions are available here. We do not recommend travelling by car as there are relatively few parking lots in Munich. Besides a car is not necessary in everyday life in Munich because everything can be reached by public transportation.

If you inform us in time about your arrival, we will arrange accommodation for you. We search for low-cost, furnished rooms and rent them for the period of your internship. The rooms are equipped at least with a bed, a cupboard/shelf, a table and a chair. In addition there will be an access to a kitchen and to a shower/WC. In most rooms there will be an Internet connection, but we cannot always guarantee for that.

Your rent will be around 250 € per month. The rent will be taken directly from your internship salary, so that you do not need to worry about the lodging issues. In addition, we will collect a deposit of 250 € from you at your arrival. You will get it back at the end of your stay, if you leave your room without having damaged anything.

Bed linen and towels must be brought along!

The first days in Munich

During the first days a mentor will help you with all your questions and show you the city center of Munich. You will find out where you can buy all the everyday stuff and what you can do in Munich in the evenings. Additionally we assist you in getting a German SIM card (prepaid) for your mobile phone so that you can call us and the other trainees at low costs. Soon you will also get to know the other members of the Local Committee and the other trainees.
